THE TEAM

  • Karin McInerney (Writer)

Karin has spent nearly three decades in the classroom, teaching science, especially biology, to all kinds of kids (strugglers and gifted, avid learners, mildly interested and disengaged), from all kinds of backgrounds (multicultural, disadvantaged, and privileged) and in all kinds of schools (public, catholic, and independent). She's been in the trenches, from full-time positions to part-time, casual and temporary gigs, and knows what teachers need for their lessons to work.

Happiest when students are happily working independently, Karin values preparation and believes in the power of well-crafted teaching resources. Unable to find just the right resources for Biology students at her last (very multicultural) school, she wrote them herself: Year 12 Biology – A Complete Course is the result of nearly three years of rewriting, developing, fixing up, polishing and refining the resources originally prepared for her students in 2019. Everything you need to teach Year 12 Biology is in here!

She has also authored two previously-published teaching resources:
    • Energy in the Environment, a resource for teaching everything about energy use, published by Choice Education and Environmental Protection Authority in 1996 (written when her own kids were little and long out of print, although much of it is still highly relevant!)

    • Stage 5 Science, published by Titan Education in 2009. Written while in temporary and casual positions, this blackline masters resource covered the (then) stage 5 NSW science syllabus (and is also out of print but still used in lots of schools).

  • Julie Cantrill (Editor)

Julie has 20 years’ experience editing in the science field and edited the entire manuscript! A love of communicating science has taken her on a journey through education as a biology and science teacher and into the publishing industry as an editor of academic literature and science education resources.

  • Bernie McInerney

(Fact Checker, Proofreader, resident Biotechnology/Agriculture Consultant)

Bernie is a scientist (now retired) who studied agriculture and biochemistry and worked for many years in the biotech industry. He has lots of publications in international journals, two patents, and authored a book chapter on natural products chemistry. He has been an invaluable source of information on current biotechnologies and agriculture.

A scientist needs to be careful and meticulous, and Bernie has applied these qualities to proofreading the manuscript, verifying facts and figures, and checking all the student exercises and summaries to pick up any mistakes. (Karin thought there were none – but he found them!)
